The awards of the Saint Vlas Film Fest 2024
One of the most anticipated summer film festivals – Sveti Vlas film fest, starts its third edition from July 3 to 7, 2024, in the resort town of Sveti Vlas. The glamorous event pays tribute to the richness and diversity of Bulgarian cinema.
“German Lessons” by director Pavel Vesnakov won the award for best film
The award was announced by the director of the festival, Daniela Dineva. A special guest at the ceremony, which took place in the “Arena” Amphitheater in Saint Vlas, was the Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Ilko Ganev. He awarded the award for Best Actress. She went to Eli Skorcheva for the “Lessons of Blaga”.
“I am happy to be here to present one of the best awards to an actress who needs no introduction,” Ganev said. From the stage, Eli Skorcheva wished the festival a long and bright journey and stated that “there is a need for such events that promote Bulgarian cinema and raise its authority”. “The Lessons of Blaga” won another award – for best director. It was awarded to Stefan Komandarev.
This evening, the jury of the “Sveti Vlas Film Fest” awarded the prize for the leading role to Julian Vergov for his role in “German Lessons”.
In the category for the best screenplay, Yana Lekarska received an award for the film “Because I love bad weather”. The cinematography award goes to Andrey Andreev for “Trust Game”.
This year, the jury also evaluated films from the competition for the best short film. The theme was “A love encounter with an unexpected ending”, and the condition – that the works be photographed with a mobile phone. Works by Nia Petrova, Ana Tsvetkova and Vladimir Goranov were awarded. The award for the best short film went to Vladimir Goranov.
The statuette for a supporting female role went to Petra Tsarnorechka for the film “Diada”, and for a supporting male role – to Gerasim Georgiev-Gero for his roles in the films “German Lessons”, “The Lessons of Blaga” and “The Good Driver”.
Organizers of the third edition of “St. Vlas Film Fest” are “Dinevi Group” with the support of the National Film Center, Municipality of Burgas, Municipality of Nessebar and Municipalities of Saint Vlas. At the ceremony, a special award was presented to the Municipality of Burgas. Her representative, Gergana Chakarova, an expert in the “Culture” department, presented the award to Tonislav Hristov for the film “The Good Driver”.
This year the film festival “Saint Vlas Film Fest” offered viewers a selection of Bulgarian cinema in a variety of genres, styles and messages. Five filmmakers judged the films. The chairman of the jury was associate professor Dr. Deyan Statulov, and members – Bashar Rahal, Nikolay Iliev, Dimitar Gochev and Ivan Garelov. The selectors of the festival were Prof. Dr. Nina Altparmakova and Toni Dobrinska.
The film festival finalized its third edition with a special screening of the film “Chalga” by Marian Valev, which entered the Top 10 of the most watched films in our country in 2023 with over 150,000 viewers. On Friday, there was also a special screening of “The Pulse of Dance” of Georgi Kostov The two films were out of competition.
The competition program this year included “Lessons of Goodness” by director Stefan Komandarev, “Dyada” by director Yana Titova, “Lessons in German” by director Pavel Vesnakov, “The Good Driver” by Tonislav Rusev, “Because I Love Bad Weather” by Yana Lekarska , “Plague” directed by Ivan Vladimirov, “Trap” by Nadezhda Koseva and “Trust Game” by Martin Makariev.
